Abstract
Patella fractures constitute 1% of all fractures in children. Of this 1%, more than half are sleeve fractures of the inferior pole. Sleeve fractures of the superior pole are extremely rare with only a handful of previously reported cases. The avulsed sleeve of cartilage and periosteum are not apparent on plain radiographs, which can result in a missed diagnosis or an underestimation of extent of injury. Late recognition of patellar sleeve fractures is not uncommon, and the diagnosis should be considered in a young patient with acute injury to the knee who has pain and limited extension of the knee. We experienced a case of sleeve fracture occurred at the superior pole of patella and report this case with literature review.
